KZ1000 (Click to enlarge)
May, 2008: I first met Stephen Sunkel at the 141 Diner in Gateway, Colorado when the resurrection of this 1980 Kawasaki KZ1000 Shaft was in early stages. It was quickly apparent that Stephan, an employee of the Gateway Canyons Resort, was a very enthusiastic motorcyclist and knowledgeable mechanic. The KZ1000 was ridable but there was much work to be done. Before the KZ1000 was finished, Stephan and his wife moved back to her hometown of Independence, Kansas where Stephan is now employed by Cessna Aircraft. Stephan sent me a picture of the completed KZ1000 and I was impressed enough to add it to this site so he and I can both share with friends.
